Wet and cold? These running tights will get you back outside

The temperatures have fallen and my running shorts have been put away. From now on, it’s my tight’s turn to protect my legs from wind and weather. Read on to find out my three favourite pairs.

From now on, I’m taking the longer option – and I don’t mean in terms of distance in my sessions – I mean the length of my bottoms. After shorts and three-quarter leggings, warmer running tights are now in season. Still looking for running tights and would like some tips? Here are my favourites.

1. My go-to for the transition period

The Dynafit Trail Reflective Tight is currently my favourite. They have a super soft layer on the inside and reflective stripes on the outside to increase visibility at night. They’re breathable and wick moisture away from the body well, so I don’t feel sweaty when I pick up the pace. The wide waistband’s very comfortable as nothing slips or rubs.

Another plus is the light compression. This keeps my legs feeling reasonably fresh even after long runs. Side pockets offer space for a phone, tissues or keys.

2. Suitable for sub-zero temperatures

The Winter Running Leggings from Compressport won’t let you down even in sub-zero temperatures. Thanks to a combination of wool and polyamide, they’re good for temperature regulation: the leggings feel warm but not too warm when running. Despite what the name suggests, they’re not strong compression leggings. They offer light support, but without much pressure.

The waistband is cut high so you won’t suddenly feel cold if your jacket and top slip up a little under your backpack.

3. Moisture-wicking and quick-drying

The 2XU Ignition Shield Compression Tights will keep you dry in the rain and wet. They have a waterproof membrane on the thighs, so you can keep on training even when it’s pouring down. And your large muscles won’t cool down so quickly. These tights are more breathable than waterproof trousers and feel supportive thanks to the compression. For me, this means I have absolutely no excuse to get outside, even in horrid weather.

The tights have reflective elements and a small pocket for keys or a gel. You can adjust the waistband with a drawstring.

If you haven’t found what you’re looking for yet and you’re looking for running pants for autumn and winter, you’re sure to find something in our range.
