Ode to the Lode: The "Bærntal" by Lothar Hofer wins ISPO Award
Modern functionality meets traditional craftsmanship. The award-winning "Bærntal" one-piece by Lothar Hofer is made for skiing, snowboarding or a winter walk and was recently presented at ISPO.
From Austria comes the ski suit of the future, which is designed for simplicity and efficiency and looks like a journey back in time. Back to the Future on and off the piste. The material for this one-piece suit comes from Lodenwalker from Ramsau, Austria's oldest loden manufacturer. The "Bærntal" by Lothar Hofer is designed to provide reliable protection, keep the snow out and the warmth in. The one-piece suit was recently honoured with an award in the "Snowsports" category at the ISPO sports trade fair in Munich.
The jury wrote: "A product that impresses with traditional craftsmanship: a loden one-piece suit with high wearing comfort, regionally manufactured in Austria. Sustainably designed and customisable - a thoroughly modern product. Loden as a material should be kept in mind."
Tradition and customised design
The loden suits not only impressed the jury with their quality craftsmanship, but also with their focus on individual design options. For example, the colours for the hood, pockets and zips can be customised, making each piece unique. Hofer, a former professional telemark skier and freerider, tested the one-piece suit himself extensively over four years and recalls: "There were a few small improvements to the first suit, but the second one was perfect."
According to Lothar Hofer, the "Bærntal" is aimed at outdoor fans who are looking for sustainability and functionality. Thanks to its design, it is suitable for activities such as skiing, curling or even hunting.
