Obi-Wan Kenobi: John Williams writes theme music for Star Wars series
At the end of May, the Star Wars series "Obi-Wan Kenobi" will be launched on Disney+. The theme music is written by none other than John Williams - and 45 years later he is making up for what he was denied in 1977.
Now, the industry magazine has been told that Williams recorded the main theme for the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series last week with an orchestra in Los Angeles. Strictest safety precautions are said to have prevailed, in order not to risk any leaks. Apart from a behind-the-scenes trailer, which has been available on Disney+ for the past month, there is no preview of the music or the series.
"Obi-Wan Kenobi" will comprise six one-hour episodes and launch May 25, 2022 on Disney+.
A redemption after 45 years
Williams' return to "Obi-Wan Kenobi" may be considered historic. After all, the multiple Oscar-winning veteran has not written music for television since "Amazing Stories" in 1985.
The reason for his return could be an open bill. According to Variety, Williams revealed back in 1977 that he had created a musical theme for the first Jedi in film history. One that was meant to embody "the spiritual philosophical beliefs of the Jedi Knights and the Old Republic." The theme certainly made it into the film. But was then used completely differently.
As a Force theme.
Whether it was William's decision to use the theme differently, or that of director George Lucas, is not known. Just as little, who wrote the rest of the music for the upcoming series. The only thing that is clear is that work has already been going on for several months in a studio in London.
And that Obi-Wan Kenobi will ultimately get his own theme.
