What is the experience of using the device to trim the beard (to 5mm)? How often do you have to go over the same spot until it really fits?

No problem, once is enough. It cuts very well. However, it's not the most comfortable trimmer for beards. For example, it cuts better than the Philips oneblade, but doesn't hug the face as well.
