According to the TomTom website, it says about software and map updates: "All these services and updates are available for the lifetime of your TomTom device.". But what does "lifetime" mean? As long as the device is not defective and is being used, or rather only as long as the manufacturer (arbitrarily and at its own discretion!) determines the service life? It is not possible to ask TomTom, as they only have a useless chat bot at work and no email address visible to not only ask this simple question but also to get an answer ....
This is such a topic with TomTom, for which they have already accumulated many angry customers. There has been no official statement from TomTom so far, but they are likely to simply refer to the small print.
Lifetime is defined there as "the period of use of the device, e.g. the period during which you receive updates, services, content and accessories from TomTom". This means: "A device has reached the end of its service life when this support is no longer provided." This means that the company can arbitrarily declare the service life to have ended at any time by discontinuing support.
