Gesso is used as a primer to prepare painting surfaces such as canvas, cardboard, and wood. It enhances the adhesion of acrylic or oil paint layers and is applied to a clean, grease-free surface. The white gesso from the artist acrylic paint line has a higher concentration of titanium dioxide white than that from the studio acrylic paint line, resulting in greater opacity.
