Question about Garmin Edge 1040

I wouldn't give it away again. Today I noticed that it also records a breathing rate. Google doesn't know much about it either, the only thing I've found is that this value is determined when a Garmin chest strap is used. I use a Polar H9. Unfortunately, I can't find anything in the instruction manuals for the Garmin chest straps either. Do any of you know more about this and whether the value is reliable? Thank you very much.

Helpful answer
The breathing rate is presumably derived from the measured heartbeat variance. The heart beats faster when inhaling and slower when exhaling.
