On my T6 with detachable coupling (Westfalia), the flap only opens if you 1. position the carrier exactly and 2. press a little on the carrier when it is not loaded. When two bikes are on it, it works without additional pressure with approx. 5mm "air". Apparently there is a certain variance in this.
