Yes, it "slides" (if you push or pull it). Depending on use, the sliding side is very practical, to take and put back boxes without taking out the whole pile, to see if you prefer total stability or easy grip (I tested both, I prefer the second one personally but they are in a cupboard not on an open shelf)

The same boxes are available with a lid with a rim so that they can be stacked and no longer slip.
