My dehumidifier just won't start... When I plug it in, I hear the start tones and the flap opens, but then it closes again and no matter which button I press, nothing happens (apart from a single beep). Not even the display comes on. It's not a childproof lock, the tank is inserted correctly, it's on level ground... What am I missing?

It's a defect; I had exactly the same thing about 2 months ago. Register it under warranty and send it in / bring it over; but it will potentially take about 1 month until you get the device back...
