Per se, portafilter machines are not as suitable for 'long drinks' as, for example, a fully automatic machine, because the height of the cakes is lower. Apart from that, you can of course make a super Americano or even let the espresso run longer. In my experience, however, it tastes different from a café crème from a fully automatic machine, for example. But I also do this regularly with the New Gaggia Classic and I'm satisfied, but as we all know, tastes differ. But the strengths definitely lie in the espresso ;-).
