Your machine is in order. The procedure for setting the water hardness is correctly described. BUT: Point 4 requires that the two buttons be pressed "simultaneously". There is absolutely no leeway here: "simultaneously" must really be implemented in this way. There must not be 10 seconds between the touching of these keys! My procedure: two fingers hover over the keys - and lower themselves "simultaneously"! That works. Never before have I had to implement "simultaneously" so uncompromisingly with any device. Have fun - you will succeed.

When you open the capsule ejector after the hot water, you will notice that it all escapes at once into the drip tray. The coffee machine is not designed for making hot water.
