Is it possible to install the Hue Essential app on the Android TV? That way you don't need the expensive Sync Box. And you have Ambilight when watching normal TV. And it goes out with normal Netflix. (Keyword copy protection) Has anyone tried this or could test it?

Yes it works. Tested today with my sony oled with android 9.0 & gradient 65" & hue essential. However not possible with read-only content like netflix & disney + e.g.
