Would this device work with the nVidia Shield TV Box? Since the HDMI port of the Shield TV Box is connected directly to the projector and my AVR system has no HDMI support, I am looking for a solution.

Unfortunately, I cannot judge whether this works. I would rather recommend an HDMI Audio Extractor such as the following product: Delock HDMI Audio 5.1 Extractor, 4K, 60Hz
