Will the WD Red Plus and Pro work with a motherboard that only supports SATA-II? I want to install the Red as a mass storage drive in my HP Z400 workstation and run a media server there.

is certainly recognised and would also work as Sata is backwards compatible. you simply have a loss of speed.
