What do I have to look out for when buying lenses that have the same bayonet mount as the camera? Do lenses with the EF suffix work?

The lens must have the same bayonet as the camera. With the EOS 750D you can attach both EF lenses and EF-S lenses.
Otherwise you are relatively free in the choice of lenses for a camera with an APS-C sensor, i.e. you can work with both APS-C lenses and full-frame lenses.
Have fun with the 750D, it was my first camera and you can take really great pictures with it:)
