Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM (C) Nikon F DX
Nikon DX, APS-C / DX
The stated focal length of 18 - 300 mm is 28.80 - 480 mm for APS-C / DX (small-format equivalent). Does this mean that the lens has a full-frame FX focal length of 18 - 300 mm, but is not suitable for this at all?
Exactly. DC lenses from Sigma are specially calculated for the image circle of an APS-C sensor (corresponds to the DX lenses from Nikon). As is generally the case, however, the focal length is always converted for a full-frame format.
You can. However, the camera then only uses part of the sensor (APS-C). The resolution is lower as a result. But otherwise the image is good. The focal length remains the same as with APS-C.
Incidentally, I can only recommend the lens. I had the Nikon 18-200 before, but the Sigma is definitely sharper. The only small negative point is that, as usual with Sigma, it zooms to the other side than with Nikon.
