I assume that you are using a Windows system, try the following:

Right-click on the Windows logo at the bottom left, then select Device Manager and uninstall the driver without having connected the microphone. Restart the PC and reconnect the microphone. If this does not work, test whether the microphone is recognised on another device. If not, you should suspect a defect.
