Many people have reported broken brackets, which are not covered by the warranty. This is apparently a major weakness of this product. Would such damage be covered by the appliance insurance that can be taken out as an add-on?

Such damage is actually covered. However, each case must be considered individually. However, as long as you use the headphones correctly and without applying great force, such defects should not occur.
