I've read, but I can't believe it: does the 77 II really not have a GPS?

It's true that the Mark II no longer has a GPS module. After having photographed with the "old" one for about 5 years now, I have to tell you that this is not a real loss. Firstly, the GPS module sucks up a lot of battery power. But above all, it takes quite a long time until it has finally found at least 3 satellites. Very often too late... By the way, I have had the same experience with Panasonic cameras, so it seems to be a rather fundamental problem. When I really need it - which is rare - I use a solution on my mobile phone, GPS Logger for Android. I've switched to the Mk II in the meantime and haven't regretted it for a second.

It is indeed the case that the A77II has no GPS. Instead, it has a new CMOS sensor with better image quality, faster autofocus (new module with more points) and Wi-Fi (incl. NFC). However, the housing is apparently no longer sealed against splash water and dust.

Thanks for the answers - I'd rather stick with my "old" Alpha 77 with GPS and the fine Sony and Sony-Zeiss lenses!

Yes, Nikolaj9, it is indeed the case that Sony has saved the GPS for the Alpha 77 II. However, the faster image sequence, the better noise behaviour and the reliable autofocus more than compensate for the missing GPS - from my subjective point of view. - I shoot portraits and wide-angle with the A99 and sports and telephoto with the A77 II - nota bene with the correspondingly good quality Sony and Minolta lenses - and I am totally happy with both cameras. But that's just it: Those who appreciate and need the GPS service will be disappointed. But probably I have only deepened the disappointment, or ...? ? Nevertheless, Richie07 wishes you lots of fun with your photography.
