You can burn the recorded films onto DVD blanks, but I have not yet found any blanks that are "HD Ready" compatible, which means that this device can record HD Ready programmes, but only in compressed form onto the standard 4.7 GB blanks, which means quality loss. Unfortunately, the Bluray discs I bought from Philips (25GB) are not readable. My tip is to go for a newer device (e.g. Panasonic DMR BCT 855), this device cost me almost the same and can burn Full HDs and has wireless internet, 1TB hard drive etc., everything that the DMR EX97 does not have.
