Is a Phanteks case with controller required for operation or is an Asus Aura motherboard sufficient?

You do not necessarily need a Phanteks case. According to Phanteks, a mainboard with a suitable 4-pin RGB header is sufficient. This should be available on an Asus Aura motherboard.
