In various reviews you can always read that the Beyerdynamic headphones, and especially this one, have painful treble and take some getting used to. How can I imagine this? Do the trebles sound more metallic or what? I also play FPS games a lot. Is it possible to "hear" the steps or their direction well with these headphones?

I use it every day to play FPS and I hear the steps well enough. With an equalizer you can certainly improve it. The peak in the treble is noticeable and takes some getting used to. For me it's not exactly painful but a little uncomfortable.
