I would primarily like a device to watch DVDs on my laptop ... is this device suitable for that at all?

According to other customer experiences, however, you have to download the VLC Player online in order to watch DVDs.

Hello @Rut.decurtins , as long as you only want to watch "normal" DVDs and not Blueray's then this drive is perfectly OK.

Otherwise you would have to resort to the following:
ASUS SBW-06D2X-U (Blu-ray)
