I would like to buy the device for my child: is it possible to lock the apps, including Safari, so that a child can use it purely as an iPod with Spotify, for example, but cannot access the internet separately and download apps themselves? Can I limit the play time but leave the music listening time open? Thank you for your input....
Yes, that is possible. You can set a time limit for all apps and exclude individual apps. Our son is allowed to use Deezer for an unlimited time, but he only has access to Safari, App-Store, etc. for 1 hour a day.
Yes, you can configure that with Apple "Screen Time". I did exactly that for my 7 year old son. We use Apple Music, but that should also work with Spotify. Audiobooks and music he can always do, other apps go by time scheme I configured. If you make an Apple family account, the whole thing also works from my iPhone. For example, I have completely removed Safari, Apple Mail and Messages. App downloads can either be completely blocked ( no App Store at all) or restricted with a request to me or my wife. It really works best if everyone in the family has Apple devices, but you can also configure everything on the device itself.
