I have an Asus Sabertooth which supports memory modules up to 2400mhz. What happens if I install a 2666mhz module? Will it just work at 2400mhz or will it crash?

Bullshit. Nothing happens. The RAM modules are simply clocked down to the maximum clock speed of 2400 MHz :)
