I bought the 8TB drive new and installed it in my Synology DS218+.
However, when the NAS is in IDLE, I hear a noise from the hard disk about every 3 seconds, as if it stops. In between, I hear the normal "whirring" of the disk.
Is this normal?
I don't think you can operate the hard drive like this in a living room or similar...

I also have an 8TB drive in a Synology and I only hear the normal whirring of the hard drives. I don't hear a noise like the one you describe. I would take a look at the SMART values and otherwise RMA.
