It works. I am using it with Synology.
The main reason is likely the noise level, and energy consumption if you have a very large NAS: enterprise HDD are designed for different specs, and NAS-specific drives have special features to make them quiet. In this specific case, it can take a while to spin up all the drives if they sleep and when they are working they are noticeable louder than my precious NAS-specific Ironwolfs

Synology makes their own HDs and SSDs which are of course the only ones certified for Synology NAS. Everything is available from Synology, WD, Seagate etc.

Hello Towelie
Unfortunately, I cannot answer the question "why this HD should not be compatible with Synology" directly. However, I suspect that Synology is "somewhat" overwhelmed by its own growth (to put it mildly)...

I have been using several of these HDs for at least a year, e.g. 4 HDs in Synology model "DS920+" and 2 HDs in a rather old and cheap machine, namely "DS214play". Everything even as RAID... Especially with the "DS214play" I had certain concerns about compatibility, but as the saying goes "no risk, no fun" and I have absolutely no regrets about buying these HDs, on the contrary, I am VERY satisfied. Both systems run absolutely flawlessly! I used the old "DS214play" as a video server.

Contrary to what someone (Anonymous) wrote, however, the noise level has NOTHING to do with compatibility and (in my opinion) should have nothing to do with it... the noise level is just a kind of "cosmetic" in my opinion

I hope this has helped you?!?

Happy New Year and greetings

I have been using the hard drive for almost a year in the Synology expansion bay together with a DS916. Works without any problems.
