Hello, in the pictures and also on YouTube it is shown that the hook at the bottom of the centre column can be unscrewed to extend the monopod. On the C5i carbon tripod I just bought, the 'screw' doesn't budge. How do I get it out without breaking anything?

Not at all :-) You have to unscrew the head and one of the legs (the one with the lock engraved on the top), then you can screw the head to the leg.
