What you are describing is the connection for the fax cable. Keep looking, right next to the USB interface should be the network interface.
It's a good thing that there are quick-start guides (https://download.brother.com/welcome/doc101147/cv_mfc4340dw_ger_qsg.pdf) that come with the product and show exactly this picture/situation on page 2, point 12 ;-)
