Question about Synology DX517 Expansion Unit
Hello Digitec Community, Does anyone know if it is possible to set up a dedicated power schedule for the DX517 on the host DS? I really only want to use the 517 as a backup and therefore only start it once a week, make a programmed backup, then shut it down again automatically and leave the host DS (918+) running of course... I have not noticed such a setting option in my setup (DS918+/DX517) so far.
Yes, this possibility exists. Please excuse me for using the English terms. I have always set up my systems in English. I am not sure what the exact German names are.
DSM, Synology's operating system, allows you to set arbitrary switch-on and switch-off times under Control Panel > Hardware & Power under the tab "Power Schedule". This allows the system to be started before the backup and shut down again after the backup. However, it is also possible to shut down the system after the backup has been completed. The possibilities depend on the backup application you are using (e.g. rsync).

Under "Hardware & Power > HDD Hibernation" there is an "Enable Deep Sleep to minimize power consumption for the expansion unit" setting. It should work with this setting. I have turned it off because I use my DX517 for TimeMachine backups (macOS) for several computers, so I have never tested it.
