No, it stays connected all the time, even when the device (Apple TV) goes to sleep. Just note that Libratone has filed for bankruptcy. This will probably affect updates and warranty claims unless a new buyer can be found. (Which doesn't bother me, I ordered another one just as the announcement came - I'm a convinced Libratone user).
