On pcpartpicker.com you can check for compatibility and with an ASUS Z370-E or F motherboard there is the following message:

Some Intel Z370 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Coffee Lake Refresh CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.

In short, it MAY require a BIOS update for the CPU to work. If this is the case, you will need a CPU that is compatible for this update.
