December 2020 new leak! Due to a data leak at Ledger, hackers got hold of customer data. Customers have been targeted for phishing ever since. Now, however, the data sets are freely available and the risk for those affected is increasing. After around 1 million customer records were obtained by previously unknown hackers in June, the security risk for those affected has now increased even further. This is because a hacker made the data sets publicly available for download. Many of Ledger's customers have already been receiving fake emails for months, which are supposed to get them to reveal their private keys. Phishing attacks are not new in the world of cryptocurrencies, because it is extremely lucrative to target cryptocurrency users, hackers are always interested. However, with the latest stage of escalation, the problem takes on a new dimension. While the data was previously only known to a comparatively small group, it is now accessible to everyone on the net. This automatically makes the affected customers a potential target for a multitude of criminal offences. How can one protect oneself? First of all, it is important to understand that under no circumstances should you transmit your private key or seed to strangers. Both are at the heart of every Bitcoin wallet, including Ledger's hardware wallet. Now that email and home addresses have ended up on the net, it could not only be a matter of phishing in the future, but also completely new threat scenarios could arise. On the website "Have I been pwned?" users can find out for free and securely whether they have been affected.

Hello Anonymous

It is perhaps important to mention that "only" a shop database was leaked and that this in no way affects the security of the wallets.

And all those who bought at Digitec are therefore not affected.

Unfortunately, a Shopify database was leaked internally. Ledger has already drawn conclusions from this.
