Can this player work with other TVs than a Sony? Or does something have to be reprogrammed for a Samsung TV, for example?

The player itself should work with any TV set that has an HDMI connection, as the signal output is via HDMI. For the additional features such as 3D and 4K upscaling, it depends on whether your TV set supports this.
