Yes, you can do it directly or via a docing station depending on your needs. You can connect a laptop to either Windopws or Macs as you wish. Everything is possible. The mouse and keyboard also work with Mac via Bluetooth.

It should actually work. I have connected my laptop directly to it via HDMI and that works so far. For a Surface I think it would work best with a dock.
