Can the controllers be left on permanently or is it recommended to take them off as soon as they are full to avoid damaging them?

I simply unplug the thing (press the button) when the controllers are charged, because I don't think it's so good for the battery capacity to be on all the time, as the heat damages the batteries quickly.

should not be done, as batteries should only be connected to the power supply until they are charged. Controllers that are permanently connected to the power supply lose capacity more quickly.
