Can I select the destination (e.g. scan-to-file or scan-to-email) or the scan type (scan-to-pdf, scan-to-Word) on the device (e.g. via touch or similar) or do I always have to switch on the PC for this?

The scanner has only one button. This starts the default scanning process that you have set up on the PC. However, the computer must be connected for this.
