Can I connect the WD My Passport for Mac with its USB3 interface to my Mac, which only has USB2? Do the 2.5" models have any disadvantages compared to the 3.52" models?

The drive can be connected to an old Mac with USB2.0, but is then also slower (because of USB2.0).
The disadvantage of the drive compared to a 3.5'' drive is that it is less stable in continuous operation due to its compact design. So if you want the drive to run continuously for several weeks (as a NAS, so to speak), you should probably go for a 3.5'' solution with its own power supply. If you only need it temporarily and want something light to take along, then it is reliable enough. I have not had any bad experiences so far
