According to the Manfrotto homepage, there are versions for iPad Air and iPad Air 2. How are the specifications to be understood here? (iPad Air 2013, 2014?) Which iPad is needed for which version?

According to Digitec this has already been ordered and should be available in +/- weeks.
Haven't decided which one yet either.

If the FIRST iPad Air came out in 2013 then the Ipad Air 2 came out.... 2014 out ;)
By the way... great product... could test it with my 5D MKIII. It's really fun :)
