Increase capacity, reduce operating costs
The Ultrastar DC HC500 series is designed for public and private clouds where storage density and cost-efficient infrastructure are critical factors.
More value for the data center with capacity, energy efficiency, and reliability. Western Digital delivers capacity to handle data volumes, providing the foundation for a reliable data center: the Ultrastar DC HC520, previously known as Ultrastar He12, from our HC500 series with helium filling. The Ultrastar DC HC520 is designed for workloads of up to 550 TB per year. It is the industry's first 12 TB hard drive and utilizes proven PMR technology (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording), making it ready for any enterprise-capacity application or environment. The stable internal environment created by the fourth-generation HelioSeal technology allows for a new design with 8 platters, providing a 20% higher capacity compared to the 7-platter design of its predecessor, the Ultrastar DC HC510. This high-capacity helium-filled HDD is among the lowest power-consuming drives, helping your data center meet its environmental goals and targets. The Ultrastar DC HC520 builds on the successful design of its 10 TB, 8 TB, and 6 TB predecessors, delivering an MTBF of 2.5 million hours, thus achieving the best reliability rating of any HDD available on the market. The Ultrastar DC HC520 from Western Digital offers more storage capacity, efficiency, reliability, and value for your data center.
HelioSeal technology overcomes challenges of next-generation data centers. Data centers are increasingly under pressure. Data volumes and operating costs are rising while budgets remain constant. Reducing operating costs is now the primary goal in planning...
