Due to its low tendency to warp, wood can be printed without a heated bed. When using a heated bed, the recommended temperature is ±35–60 °C. Wood can be used with all common 3D desktop printers that utilize FDM or FFF technology. We recommend using a nozzle larger than 0.4 mm. Storage should be cool and dry (15–25 °C) and protected from UV light to significantly increase shelf life.

Filament for 3D printers, wood from RS. Wood is a modified, PLA-based filament type that smells and feels like wood. The filament is somewhat brittle but robust enough to be supplied in spools ranging from 300 grams to 1 kg. It prints easily, but we recommend using a slightly larger nozzle to avoid clogs. Due to its low shrinkage factor, wood does not deform after cooling.

Polylactic acid is a biodegradable plastic made from renewable natural resources and is one of the most popular materials for 3D printing. It feels and smells like wood. It is easy to print at low temperatures and has very little warping. It is biodegradable and should preferably be printed with a nozzle larger than 0.4 mm.

After purchasing your filament, it is important to store it properly to maintain quality. Over time, the plastic absorbs moisture from the air, leading to small water bubbles forming in the filament. These bubbles quickly reach boiling point when heated in the extruder nozzle, damaging the print. The use of desiccant drying agents to absorb moisture is highly recommended.
