A brand new feature is the "Dual Connect" connection in the base - with XLR3-M (analogue) and USB-C (digital). The NT1 5th Generation can be operated both traditionally with a preamp or audio interface and directly connected to a computer. Thanks to the high-gain Revolution preamp, the audiophile 192 kHz A/D converter and 32-bit floating point audio, the NT1 5th Generation is also a premium USB microphone with first-class signal quality.
Using RØDE's free Connect streaming/recording software, you can take advantage of the built-in DSP chip to add high-pass filtering, noise gate, compressor and Aphex® to the signal while it's still in the microphone - an ideal feature for podcasters and streamers.
With its minimal self-noise of only 4 dBA (a world record!), the NT1 5th Generation is also suitable for extremely quiet instruments, provided it is operated with a quality interface. Or you can use the built-in high-tech preamp/converter and connect it directly to your computer via the included USB-C cable. With a limiting sound pressure level of 142 dB, there is nothing to stop you from using the NT1 5th Generation for recording guitar and bass amplifiers, miked brass instruments, as drum overheads or for other very loud sound sources.
Speaking of loud sound sources, the NT1 5th Generation is the first microphone in the world to deliver 32-bit floating point audio. The advantage is obvious: as long as you do not exceed the limiting sound pressure level of 142 dB, it is virtually impossible to distort the signal through incorrect gain settings or digital clipping. On the contrary, only with 32-bit floating point is it possible to take full advantage of the microphone's enormous dynamics, even with surprising jumps in level, and to subsequently compensate for flattened level peaks by normalising them when recording in the DAW.
The NT1 5th Generation is also available in a silver version with a satin nickel-plated aluminium housing. As usual, the package includes the deluxe SM6 spider, a dust bag, a 6 m quality XLR cable plus a 3 m USB-C to USB-C cable. Registered users receive a 10-year warranty from RØDE on the microphone when purchased from an Authorised Dealer.
