Sony Alpha 7C

The Sony Alpha 7C has exceeded my expectations in every respect. Its compact body fits perfectly in my pocket and is ideal for travelling. The autofocus is incredibly precise and the image stabilisation ensures sharp images, even in low light conditions. The battery life is also impressive. A success all round!

First of all: I didn't buy it here, but at my photo dealer, because I wanted to see the viewfinder live first (by the way, it's not more expensive than here, on the contrary). The A7C feels a bit worse in the hand than the comparably sized Alpha 6600 because of the smaller handgrip, and there are some negatives that should not go unmentioned. But... you buy this camera because of its unsurpassed compactness. There is no smaller full-frame system camera with a flip-swivel display and stabilized sensor. The even smaller Sigma FP has neither.
By the way, the 28-60mm kit lens is amazingly good and sharp. Kit lenses have a dubious reputation. With this one, you really can't complain at all.
Animal eye AF even with the advanced Flexible Spot and real-time tracking. A pleasant surprise. Most other Sonys can't do that.
Also, the sensitivity of the tracking is adjustable. This is not the case with the Sony APS-C cameras, for example.
Unfortunately, the viewfinder does not have a rubber eyecup. Therefore, there is too much stray light in sunshine and you can hardly see anything in the viewfinder. Fail.
My lens suggestions besides the FE 28-60 Kitzoom, which you should definitely buy:
FE 20 f1.8 G
FE 35 f1.8
FE 55 f1.8 ZA
FE 85 f1.8
Of course, the FE 35 f2.8 ZA, which has finally dropped in price, also fits the bill. For me, the f2.8 was too little. Since I prefer to take the FE 35 f1.8 which is rather cheaper.
If you want a telephoto zoom, the Sony FE 70-300 G fits very well. Or at best the new, much lighter Tamron 70-300 for E-mount.
Conclusion: If you're looking for a super-compact system camera with a full-frame sensor, you can't go past the A7C. It also fits compact lenses, but of course all E-mount lenses can be used.

My first conclusion after one week is quite positive. The camera including kit lens make a great figure. It is accurate in focus, fast and makes already without processing (JPEGs) very good photos (sharp, high-contrast, beautiful skin tones ...).
I already work with the a6500 and the Sony A7RII and actually wanted a successor to the a6500. Either the a6600 or the A7c. Thought about it for a long time and didn't regret the decision in favor of the A7c.
The nagging regarding viewfinder and the operating concept (menu navigation) I can not understand. I am a photographer and wearer of glasses and find the viewfinder absolutely okay. Surely there are better ones, but it is absolutely not unusable, as some people keep saying. Regarding menu navigation is also much too much grumbled. With "MyMenu" and the FN button, the camera can be perfectly adjusted to your needs. A camera has to help you take good pictures and is not a "gameboy" to constantly zap back and forth in the menus. I only need a few parameters for photo and video. Configured accordingly, this camera is extremely fun to use!

I wanted a small, light DSLR that I could take on a walking tour and become the basis for a new system. I am not disappointed.
Even though the sensor is less capable that the latest Alpha 7s, it’s about half the price for the back. The software is very capable, especially for autofocus and dynamic range.
For serious photography the kit lens will become frustrating. 28-60 is versatile for street and landscape photography and it collapses to a really short package. I would love to go longer (70-90) for portraits, but the alternative lenses are much longer and weigh more than the camera.
I’ve bought a fixed length 85mm which is also light and inexpensive, and that travels with me in the backpack, and a 24-105 for more serious work … but that stays at home most of the time.

Excellent choice for almost anything. The viewfinder is terrible but the screen makes up for it. As good as the A7III in photos and better in video. Shutter speed slightly slower but still great. recommended

I read various things about this camera and first tested it in a specialist shop. I was thrilled after only a short time. Especially in the dark, this camera brings out everything that is currently technically possible. Of course, the big alpha series like the IV and the new V are even better, but look at the compact design.
Also ingenious are the new FE lenses that weigh between 150g and 180g and fit the camera perfectly.
My wish would be a lightweight FE zoom like the 24-105mm or the 24-240mm. Then I would be fully equipped for travelling.
As fixed focal lengths I can warmly recommend the various Zeiss lenses. You can do a lot of things right with them.
A great universal, for example, is the 24-70 f/4 OSS. As wide-angle lenses, the 20mm from Sony or the 18mm and 25mm Zeiss Batis would be a good recommendation. Above all, these are pleasantly light and therefore fit the camera well.
It is also possible to use the Sony APS-C lenses. However, the resolution of 10 megapixels is well enough if you don't want to order large posters.
All in all, I am really enthusiastic about this camera and can only warmly recommend it.

Switched from Canon 80D and EOS R to A7C and that was the best decision!
The color management of the A7iii has kept me from buying a Sony and was therefore long with Canon.
But the A7C has the new Sony colors which are very appealing. Together with the top dynamic range, noise performance and autofocus a real powerhouse.
Per Sigma MC11 adapter, I can also continue to use my Canon lenses.
The small size of the camera is not a problem for me, the camera consists mainly only of lens (which can be held well) with a 24-70 f2.8 / 70-200 f2.8 :-)

Exchanged my RX100 VII for this camera. Although bigger - photo quality is far superior while still good for travel. Nevertheless, it could benefit from more compact lenses. Looking forward that Sony is reviving its concept of NEX cameras.

Why I don't buy it:
Too few custom buttons
Bad viewfinder
Too low display resolution
I often want to set the focus precisely through the viewfinder. With the resolution and the hard plastic thing in the eye, it's difficult.
If the 2.3 points would be improved it would be a positive purchase decision...
Edit:
1. yes I tried it, not parroted it. For 1700Fr it's not worth it to me even if the handiness is a big plus for a fullframe.
Maybe there's a more practical development.
2nd @keinApfel if you can't respect other opinions then just shut up 😉 .
