Positive
- decent image quality at a resolution of 3600dpi on slidescans (density range is somewhat limited though)
- good dust and scratch removal thanks to the ICE function
- appealing design and good workmanship
- Included scan software is easy to use and sufficient for normal users.
- Adobe Photoshop Elements is included
- Very easy to insert the slides
Neutral
- Scanspeed lasts with 3600dpi per slide scarcely four minutes
- Price: I find it quite steep, but the price-performance ratio compared to other slide scanners seems to be okay
negative
- no batch processing
- a bit noisy in operation
The drivers and the scan software also work under Windows 7 without problems.
The device is mechanically well built. With Silverfast SE you can sometimes conjure up excellent images from old slides, but the operation via Silverfast is confusing and illogical and not well suited for the occasional user. The scanner is extremely slow (you manage about 10 images per hour), it communicates poorly, you don't know what it's doing and you have to be there and keep clicking. For a high-end device, it's incomprehensible that it can't resolve very dark slides or b/w films (there would be an expensive software update...).
In contrast, a cheap Aldi scanner manages all slides, brings extremely much faster and intuitively immediately balanced results, although not quite as sharp and without dust removal, which works but only with some film types.
Got the Reflecta running with Silverfast SE over Photoshop Elements on Win7-32 bit and iMac, but not on Win7-64 bit, maybe it's just me.
I use the scanner with Silverfast SE Plus (not included) and I am very satisfied.
The device is not lightning fast, but in my opinion offers a very good price / performance ratio.
Simple scan of a slide takes about 1min30 in 3600dpi. With multi-exposure (HDR with double scan) a good 3 minutes. The quality is very good, better than older pro scans of my slides a few years ago.
Unfortunately quite noisy. A rubber mat between table and device helps a bit against the vibrations.
