The fitbit Surge is a very good fitness companion. Depending on the area of use, it brings exactly the functions that other companions do not.
If you use the Fitibit app together with the MyFitnessPal app, you will get even more out of it. Especially the additional motivators (badges, praise, warnings, etc.) help to live more consciously and healthier.

I started with flex and now I'm continuing with Surge. Top pedometer. There is nothing better.
Excellent product. For semi-sedentary people like me, this Fitbit Surge S really pushes you to get moving. Super motivating.

I bought the Fitbit Surge to get hiking data and am disappointed.
A GPS activity tracker should automatically recognise and record and of course measure the metres of altitude uphill and downhill. I have to start the Surge manually and there are only "floors" up in the evaluation. While rummaging through my backpack, I once hit a button - and the recording was interrupted. However, I usually forget to start the recording at all. With the additional app Strava, I can at least find the altitude metres upwards on a recorded hike.
It also seems to me that in very steep terrain neither steps nor floors are correct.

I chose the Fitbit Surge because it is one of the few all in one watches (incl. GPS, activity tracking and integrated heart rate monitor) and because there are several wristband sizes. I use it for indoor activities (fitness/running) and outdoor (so far only running and no biking). I am very satisfied with everything. What could be better: Elevation not measured in floors, selection of training types for indoors and for jogging run time mapped to distance profile (incl. elevation).

Makes fun
The pulse measurement on the wrist is not completely accurate but otherwise the watch is recommendable.
