This capture card is more intended for gaming consoles on the PC + recording or streaming. There are capture cards from Elgato that have an input + output... e.g. Elgato HD60X ...with which you could record on the notebook and still play on the TV.

The product is recognised as a webcam on the notebook. Instead of a CCD chip, as with a camera, the video signal is tapped directly at the HDMI port. Presumably the latter if you use your own camera software. The app probably only supports 1080p and 4K. So much for how it works.
