My motherboard sabertooth z97 mark 1 has given up the ghost. The problem now is that my processor (i7-4790K) does not fit on the new motherboards. Is the AsRock h81 an option? My components are nvidia gtx 970, 16GB corsair 1866MHz DDR3, cooler master v8 gts fan, CPU i7-4790K.

Can anyone here tell me how the board behaves with PCI 3.0 graphics cards. Does it work or not or does it work but you have big performance degradation. I think you should be able to find a 4 gen prozi.

PCI-E 3.0 is backwards compatible. You will hardly notice the performance loss, if at all.
