Today, LaCie announced the Culbuto, a quirky USB stick brought to life by French designer Constance Guisset. When not connected to a computer, the LaCie Culbuto wobbles amusingly from side to side when nudged—similar to a plush toy. In fact, the name Culbuto is French for a toy with a weighted base that keeps the object upright even after being knocked over. "The search for movement and balance is essential in my work," said product designer Constance Guisset. "The repeated and endless swaying fascinates me. For my first project with LaCie, I proposed a slightly rounded tone, which eventually became the LaCie Xtremkey. When LaCie asked me to develop this idea, Culbuto was the result. It is an irresistibly fun USB stick: the LaCie Culbuto is a storage device disguised as a decorative object. It features a spherical, solid metal base with a silicone rubber shaft that ends in a USB 3.0 connector. At the top of the cap that seals the LaCie Culbuto, there is a slot for inserting a photo or business card. Design-conscious consumers will appreciate both the speed benefits of USB 3.0 and the additional function of the key as a quirky picture holder when not in use.
