A more advanced manufacturing technology compared to Haswell or Devil's Canyon was not the only difference of the Broadwell processors from their predecessors. The performance per clock cycle was increased through architectural optimizations. This allowed for higher performance and a significantly lower power consumption. The extreme processors of the fifth generation also benefit from the advanced 14-nm manufacturing technology of the standard Broadwell CPUs. This manufacturing process makes it possible to accommodate up to ten cores on a single die. Thanks to Hyper-Threading, the top model can handle 20 threads simultaneously.
